Inoculant

Inoculant is a type of inoculant that can promote graphitization, reduce the tendency to flake, improve the morphology and distribution of graphite, increase the number of eutectic clusters, and refine the matrix structure. It has good effects within a short period of time (about 5-8 minutes) after inoculation treatment. It is mainly suitable for general or late instantaneous inoculation in various situations.

Currently, there are a variety of inoculants used to treat gray cast iron, but 75% ferrosilicon is widely used. In recent years, there is an increasing demand for thin-walled castings, and the requirements for inoculation treatment are also stricter. When the carbon equivalent of cast iron is low, using inoculants containing strontium, barium, bismuth, zirconium, or some rare earth element can better control the tendency of white spots at thin-walled parts. It has also been reported that using inoculants containing barium, bismuth, and rare earth elements can slow down the decline of inoculation. In addition, the application of carbon based inoculants has also increased recently.
