Application of ferrosilicon nitride in refractory materials

At present, ferrosilicon nitride is mainly used in refractory materials such as castables, gun mud, and composite refractory materials.

1. The application of castable ferrosilicon nitride in castables mainly focuses on Al2O3-SiC-C iron trench castables, magnesium castables, and high aluminum castables.

2. Gun mud is an important refractory material used to plug the tap hole of a blast furnace. During tapping, slag and iron are simultaneously discharged from the tap hole. With the enlargement and longevity of blast furnaces, as well as the continuous strengthening of smelting technologies such as high blast temperature, oxygen-enriched injection, and high pressure, higher requirements have been put forward for the performance of taphole gun mud, such as high resistance to chemical, slag, and pig iron corrosion, good sintering and filling properties, excellent thermal shock resistance, and high-temperature volume stability, low environmental pollution, easy opening, and the ability to extend taphole time and protect the hearth. The gun mud containing silicon iron nitride has stable iron flow during actual use, without abnormal phenomena such as splashing and red spots. It has high high-temperature bending strength, strong resistance to molten iron erosion, and can achieve stable iron tapping for more than 60 minutes. It can completely block the iron mouth, without drilling wind and fire.

3. Composite refractories are refractories composed of two or more types of refractory raw materials with different properties that have new properties at the macro (micro) level through physical or chemical methods. The application of ferrosilicon nitride in composite refractories mainly focuses on carbon containing and carbon free composites.
